[edit] Project Overview and History

Banjo: Ace Attorney was originally planned to be an Adobe Flash or Windows Movie Maker movie production, however since PWLib was announced, the project was changed to become a playable game. The project was announced on April 14th, 2008 with a teaser video made directly on Windows Movie Maker. The teaser, which also parodies one of the original Ace Attorney teasers, can be viewed on YouTube. Before the announcement the creator took several months to develop a transcript and hand-drawn 'sprites'; the project was then known as "Project: Dream DL6". The project name referred to "Project: Dream" which was the project name for Banjo-Kazooie and also refers DL6, one of the most memorable cases in the Ace Attorney series.

The fangame will star Banjo the honey bear, and is planned to have only one case. Every other character in the fangame will also be a Banjo-Kazooie character.

As of around the end of June 08, Super Judge Bro. had drawn some B:AA promotional art that also served as Banjo-Kazooie fanart for Banjo-Kazooie's 10 anniversary. The image was first shown on the Rareware fansite, Rare-Elite, and eventually on court-records in the fangame's thread. The image is based on the American cover of Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney.

[edit] Characters in "Turnabout Grand Prix"

Banjo Bear - The playable defense attorney and the one who defeated Gruntilda Winklybunion the evil witch years ago. He is still a rookie lawyer, despite being one for almost two years (including the year featured in the game's setting).

Bottles Mole - Banjo's mentor, a senior defense attorney himself. He'll bring you good advice during gameplay.

Violet Jinjo - A female purple Jinjo, who is also a girl scout. She is the younger sister of Grape Jinjo and wants to do anything in her power to help you and him. Violet can only be described as being very enthusiastic, even when the going gets tough.

Grape Jinjo - Male purple Jinjo and the defendant, accused of the murder of Canary Mary. Eight years ago he was the Greatest B.K. Player in the World.

Kazooie Breegull - The prosecutor, Kazooie is a wise-cracking bird who often gives bad nicknames to people who annoy her. Years ago she went overseas to study to become a prosecutor. But why, and what is her 'prosecutor theme' going to be? You'll just have to find out.

Mumbo Jumbo - An ex-shaman who could perform powerful spells, he now works as a detective. He's smarter than he looks, but easily annoyed.

Humba Wumba - A witness of Canary Mary's death, she is an Indian who lives in a wigwam. She is also a powerful shaman and was once a rival to Mumbo.

Boggy Polar - Boggy is a polar bear and lives in Hailfire Peaks - Ice Side with his wife and children, he is a retired racer.

Canary Mary - Murder victim of Turnabout Grand Prix. She was one of the hardest challenges in Banjo-Kazooie fame, many players could not beat her at racing for months - some even years.

Klungo Minion - A green ogre-like character who once worked for Gruntilda until he quited. It seems that he's returned as a bumbling judge, but no one knows how he managed to get such a career despite his low intelligence.

There may be more T.G.P. characters than this in the future.

[edit] Turnabout Grand Prix

Turnabout Grand Prix is the name for the sole case in the project. Plot-wise it takes place just eight years after the events of Banjo-Tooie, the sequel of Banjo-Kazooie, and it is also Banjo's third case. (Plot-wise Banjo took two cases prior which he lost). The greatest and hardest racer in B.K. fame, Canary Mary, is murdered one night and clues left behind are against Grape Jinjo, who was once the all-time Greatest Banjo-Kazooie Player in the World eight years ago. His younger sister, Violet Jinjo a girl scout, pleads to Banjo Bear and Bottles Mole to defend her brother whom she believes is innocent. But is this case really all that simple?

[edit] Progress

  • Transcript: 97% (Current plan: Finishing up reviewing and sending to beta readers to preview the script.)
  • Sprites/Graphics 17.6%
  • Music and Sound Effects 88%
  • Voices: 30%
  • Programming 0% (First preparing transcript, sprites and other things before downloading both casemaker and tutorials.)

[edit] Voice Acting

Super Judge Bro. has been searching almost desperately for voice actors to voice the following characters,

  • Banjo (Objection, Hold it and Take That)
  • Mumbo Jumbo (Hold It)
  • Bottles (Hold It)

If S.J.B. is still unable to find any help for voice acting, she will be forced to temporarily use the voice clips from characters such as Phoenix Wright, etc. If you would like to help with voices, please PM her at court-records.net or e-mail her at Crystalbear24 (at) hotmail.com

At the moment...

Don Serrot of the CR forums has applied for Banjo.

Voice Acting Credits

  • Kazooie - Rhia of the court-records.net's forums.

[edit] Beta Readers

The transcript of B:AA has reached around 90% to 95%, as the transcript is just about complete, save for possible errors that needs to be corrected. As such, Super Judge Bro. won't be doing this alone and hopes to find some beta readers to read the script ahead of time. All spoilers will be kept intact.

Super Judge Bro. will need three people, and they will have their own spots in the credits. If you would like to apply, please e-mail or PM her.

Current Beta Readers, all from Court-Records:

  • Lukegb
  • Katana

[edit] Possible Sequel?

Super Judge Bro. had been thinking about making a sequel whenever the first project is complete and released, and would feature four cases in one game rather than its prequel. Although since development on the first game is still being worked on, a possible sequel will be ignored until then. But that doesn't mean that Super Judge Bro. doesn't occasionally write down some sequel ideas.
