PWLib

From GyakutenWiki

Jump to: navigation, search

PWLib (Phoenix Wright Library) is a set of scripts written for AIGE (Anime Image Game Engine) being developed by KSA_Tech. It allows AIGE to be able to develop Phoenix Wright games, and handles the GUI and all PW-specific material. Due to the scripting requirements, it is harder to use, but much more flexible than other casemakers.

PWLib is the first fully-featured released casemaker, superseding previous released casemakers in functionality. Also it is the first casemaker to announce working save support.

PWLib is also the first (and currently only one) casemaker to show proof of implemented working Perceive System and 3D Examination.

Contents

[edit] Origins

PWLib began as a proof of concept for AIGE's scripting system. It was initially to prove if AHLSL could be used to make a more complex game. Then it was meant for the game Phoenix Wright: Troubled Trials.

[edit] Tutorials

A book-like compilation of tutorials, "PWLib in a Nutshell", has been released and can be downloaded here.

A new revision of the book was announced but not released yet.

It currently consists of the following sections:

Introduction
Basic Tutorials
The Court Tutorials
Investigation Tutorials
Customization Tutorials

[edit] Misc.

An Editor for AIGE (called AIGEdit) has been announced, which will also contain a module for PWLib cases, but as far as is publicly known development has not been started. A packager that will allow scripts to be contained in a single EXE file has been released, but is still in active development (much like PWLib itself) by Lukegb.

[edit] Mikumo Extension

Mikumo Extension is an extension that will be available (according to KSA Technology) with PWLib 1.2 upon release.

It supports the following Gyakuten Kenji (Ace Attorney Investigations) features so far: walking, logic, confrontation (simplified cross examination).

[edit] Status

PWLib's forth release (codenamed Hayase and versioned 1.1) is now out. As with from previous release (1.0b), it is divided into two packages: Core and GFX. It is available at KSA Technology HQ Site. Despite the awfully slow speeds of his server, KSA_Tech has stated that he does not want any mirrors of the download to be made, as updates are constantly being released to fix issues with certain video cards. For this reason, the prior link links to his server rather than to a Gyakuten Wiki mirror. Currently, the GFX 1.0 package has been allowed to be mirrored on the wiki site.

[edit] Criticism

Initially, AIGE (the underlaying engine that came with PWLib) was incompatible with many systems, but minor fixes and version updates are constantly improving compatibility with the majority of systems.

With the current release of AIGE, many more graphics cards are supported by PWLib.
